The New Jewish Year 5768

Dry Bones cartoon: Happy New Year
I think of Jewish New Year as a holiday. The new Jewish year, on the other hand, is the array of special ups and downs that we, both here at home in Israel, and out there in Diaspora are now poised to experience. Perhaps too subtle a distinction for a cartoon.

This year the holiday begins on the evening of September 12. It will mark the beginning of year 5768, calculated from the creation of Adam. Interesting that our calendar does not begin with the start of creation,(no matter what they tell you) but instead begins its count with the start of the Biblical account of human history.

I hope that both your Jewish New Year and your new Jewish year are sweet and successful.

Have a Happy.
